government workers use for printed documents. government's General Services Administration, recommends U.S. Īlong with the serif typeface Garamond, Century Gothic is one of the two typefaces that PrintWise, an initiative of the U.S. However, the typeface has also been found to use more paper-due to its wider letters-meaning that the savings on ink are offset by an increase in paper costs. In order to save money that would be spent on printer ink for other typefaces, the university reportedly switched their default e-mail and printing typeface from Arial to Century Gothic. It was found that Century Gothic uses about 30% less ink than Arial. The two fonts also have some minor visual differences.Īccording to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Century Gothic uses much less ink than other, similar sans-serif typefaces. Unlike Century Gothic, Levenim MT does not have true italics. Levenim MT has two weights, namely Regular and Bold. Levenim MT is a version of Century Gothic that includes Hebrew alphabet and is available for free on most versions of Windows. Levenim MT Century Gothic and Levenim MT have minor differences in spacing and punctuation marks. It has been a part of Microsoft Office since the release of version 4.3 in 1994 and is available in the modern versions. Plus! 95 and Windows 98 included Century Gothic, but contemporary versions of Windows do not. As such, it has been bundled with many Microsoft products. While its structure is similar to Futura, its regular style is between Futura and Twentieth Century's regular and light weights.Ĭentury Gothic was one of several clones of PostScript standard fonts created by Monotype in collaboration with or sold to Microsoft, including Arial (a clone of Helvetica), Book Antiqua (Palatino), and Bookman Old Style ( ITC Bookman). ITC Avant Garde was intended as a display design for large headings and advertisements (although it is somewhat usable for body text because of the high x-height) and as a result Century Gothic is quite a light typeface, especially in default weight, with the classic display typeface feature of tight spacing and quite wide characters, in contrast to Twentieth Century which was intended more for small-size applications with a more solid stroke weight and open spacing. Century Gothic has a finer structure, less variation in stroke width and sometimes wider characters, and by default tighter spacing. Twentieth Century has features for smaller text such as loose spacing and a solid stroke weight that narrows where curves join the verticals. Design characteristics Twentieth Century (above) and Century Gothic (below) at equalised x-height in their default weight. Most notably, it lacks the extreme stylistic alternates of Avant Garde, such as highly slanted letters designed to fit together closely in kerning. Century Gothic also has larger, rounder tittles on the letters i and j more akin to Futura, whereas Avant Garde keeps the tittles square and the same width as the letter strokes. However, it differs from ITC Avant Garde in that like Futura and Twentieth Century, Century Gothic does not have a descender at bottom right of the "u" (making it appear like a Greek upsilon υ), whereas Avant Garde does. Century Gothic is similar to ITC Avant Garde in its pure geometry, and does not possess the subtle variation in stroke width found in either Futura or Twentieth Century. This allows it to substitute interchangeably for Avant Garde in documents, an important feature since Avant Garde is a standard font in some forms of the PostScript digital printing standard, and so Century Gothic allowed Microsoft to use it in preference to paying for an ITC Avant Garde license.Īdditionally, Century Gothic's design was based on Monotype's own Twentieth Century, which was drawn by Sol Hess between 19 for the Lanston Monotype Company. Century Gothic was created to be a substitute font for ITC Avant Garde, designed by Herb Lubalin, and released by the International Typeface Corporation (ITC) in 1970, so a document created in one can be displayed in the other with no change to copyfit. While many geometric sans-serif typefaces have been released to compete with the popular typeface Futura, Century Gothic is perhaps unique in its origin: it redraws one to match the design proportions of a second. We are able to directly visualize protein-protein interactions between GFP and the nanobody complex. We prove the system's tunability by generating bilayers made using OMVs engineered to contain a green fluorescent protein (GFP) binding nanobody fused with the porin OmpA. We are thus able to understand the way in which the two different lipid fractions (natural and synthetic) mix within the bilayers, and we can quantify the amount of bacterial membrane incorporated into the bilayer. We exploit the high resolution and molecular specificity that SIM can offer to identify areas of interest in these bilayers and the enhanced resolution that AFM provides to create detailed topography maps of the bilayers. Here, we use correlative atomic force microscopy (AFM) with structured illumination microscopy (SIM) for the accurate mapping of complex lipid bilayers that consist of a synthetic fraction and a fraction of lipids derived from Escherichia coli outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). These complex bilayer systems hold promise but have not yet been fully characterized in terms of their composition, ratio of natural to synthetic components, and membrane protein content. A breakthrough in the field has come with the use of outer membrane vesicles derived from Gram-negative bacteria to form SLBs, thus providing a more physiologically relevant system. Supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) made from reconstituted lipid vesicles have been used to mimic these membranes, but their utility has been restricted by the simplistic nature of these systems. An understanding of the interactions occurring at the bacterial membrane is crucial for the generation of new antibiotics. The rise of antibiotic resistance is a growing worldwide human health issue, with major socioeconomic implications. Matt and I turned around before we reached the end, but according to the GPS on my fitness app, we hiked nine miles (and then went to Great Basin in Reno for a beer). There is not much information anywhere about this hike so I think it’s about 5-5.5 miles one way from Mount Rose Highway to Diamond Peak Ski Resort. Dotted along the side of the trail are remnants of the original flume used by loggers in the late 1800’s. The Incline Flume Trail is pretty flat and maintains an elevation of 7,600 feet, so when we started heading down a rather steep hill, we realized our mistake… And kept going for a while anyway.Ī mile later, and back on track, we hiked through gorgeous fall foliage, crossed several small creeks, and enjoyed expansive views of Lake Tahoe. As always, if you have any concerns or questions, please reach out in #malware-incident channel in our Discord. Keep an eye out for more updates on that in the coming week or two. ATLauncher will be investigating how we can detect for and warn against this type of attack going forward, including checking not only for this specific type of malware, but also checking for changes to your mods since downloading. Make sure that you have scanned your system using the tools mentioned above before installing or playing Minecraft. Non official modpacks were not verified as they use external download sources, so if you plan on installing a third party pack from Technic, you should be cautious and scan after downloading. Several platforms have come out and confirmed that they've scanned and removed all traces (if there were any) of the malware from their sites: - ATLauncher: All clear to install and use ATLauncher modpacks - CurseForge: All clear to install and use CurseForge modpacks and install and use CurseForge mods - Modrinth: All clear to install and use Modrinth modpacks and install and use Modrinth mods - Technic: All clear to install and use Technic official modpacks. The situation seems to have relaxed a bit, the details on the malware and what it does is known (again if you're interested take a look at this GitHub repo) and we have tools available to detect if you're infected: - CurseForge Infected mods detection tool - NekoDetector Both these tools will detect for any traces of the malware on your PC or within your modded Minecraft installations (be sure to scan your entire drives, or at least your user folder and any folders where you run Minecraft from). NOTE: We posted this on our Discord when it happened, but forgot to post to our News feed, so if you already got the ping from our Discord about this issue, this is the same issue, not a new one. There is a thread in our Discord if you have any questions. More information about the exploit and affected mods and solutions can be found at. The best course of action currently if you play older modpacks on 1.7/1.12 is to simply not join any public servers unprotected and to add this mod to your instances to protect yourself from the exploit. Due to the nature of this being a remote code execution exploit, any attacker on the same server as you could've run any code on your computer, so as such there's no way to tell if you've been affected or what code was run. If you play singleplayer only you don't have anything to worry about, only if you play online on public servers. The scope at the moment seems to mostly affect mods on 1.7 and 1.12 but may also occur on other Minecraft versions, there is still work going on to find a full list of mods and affected versions. This is an RCE which allows bad actors to run code remotely on your computer when connected on the same server as them. Unfortunately there is another exploit going around the modded Minecraft community at the moment. |
